The Universal is a new band, rising from the musical ashes of Geelong psychedelic rock group Mystery Machine and playing music of a different variety. You might call it alternative, indie, British-ish, or vaguely folkish alterna-rock, but it doesn't really matter, these guys are only in it for the money. As for history, Evan Jones and Josh Cornwall formed a band way back in 2006, with Cameron Urquhart soon joining on bass. The band floated around without a drummer until sometime in 2007 when Marty Lawrence heard the demo and joined. However, after 6 months or so of playing around town (supporting fabulous acts like Bluejuice and the Inches), the band lost both drummer Marty and Guitarist Josh. Now, after a long hiatus, the band is back with two new members, guitarist/vocalist Blair and drummer Keith, and a completely new sound. And a new name: The Universal.

Newcomers to the live scene in Geelong, The Living Eyes are doing justice to the 60's garage sound. Incorporating originals and some classic covers from 13th Floor Elevators through to The Who these guys are showing great maturity in the band despite their youngest member being only 14yrs of age. They put on a great live show and are one of the bands to look out for.  Their style and skill are something that Geelong will be proud to call their own for a long time to come.
